Robert Henderson around 1960 ready to take his harvest (the bags in the truck are filled with hand harvested almonds) to the California Almond Exchange (now Blue Diamond)
Henderson Farms currently works with our growers in utilizing 16 owl boxes as a natural way to control rodent populations. This was our best find yet--baby barn owls just hours old yet with more eggs still to hatch.
Here is James Watson in the spring raising an iPhone clipped to a pole. We start recording a video on the iPhone right before we lift it, scan the box then lower the pole. We never know what we'll find until we look at the video (although we often hear hissing)! We never return to the same box in one season so we don't scare the owls away.
We could hear the owlets hissing when we raised the phone but had no idea this is what we would find when we watched the video!
We are not Barn Owl experts but we didn't expect to find two owls AND eggs. We're assuming this is the mom and the dad of the soon-to-be owlets.
